The Midnight Sky

The Midnight Sky is a science-fiction film directed by George Clooney and based on the novel “Good Morning, Midnight” by Lily Brooks-Dalton. Despite the high expectations surrounding this film, it ultimately falls flat and deserves a 1/5 rating.

The plot follows Augustine (George Clooney), a scientist living in the Arctic who must warn a team of astronauts returning from a mission in space that Earth has suffered a global catastrophe. Along the way, he befriends a young girl named Iris (Caoilinn Springall) and reminisces about his past regrets.

While the film’s premise may sound intriguing, the execution is disappointing. The pacing is slow and meandering, with long stretches of silence and little plot advancement. The dialogue feels stilted and lacks emotion, failing to convey the weight of the characters’ situations.

Furthermore, the film’s attempts at emotional depth fall flat. Augustine’s past regrets are vaguely alluded to but are never fully explored or given the weight they deserve. The relationship between Augustine and Iris feels forced and underdeveloped, with little chemistry between the two actors.

Visually, The Midnight Sky is impressive, with stunning shots of the Arctic landscape and space scenes that are visually stunning. However, the impressive visuals are not enough to save the film from its shortcomings.

Overall, “The Midnight Sky” is a disappointing and lackluster film that fails to deliver a compelling story or emotional depth. While the visuals may be impressive, they are not enough to save the film from its significant shortcomings.
